Six Steps to Start Up the ZLL Spring Season

The 2020 ZLL Spring Rec season, our first with Tee Ball is ready to roll.  Today’s news covers the six steps to start up our season.

  • Step 1: Team Assignments
  • Step 2: Get your kids geared up and Save 20% at ZLL Day @ Dick’s Sporting Goods on March 7
  • Step 3: Practice! Practice! Practice!
  • Step 4: Let the games begin
  • Step 5: Capturing memories on Team Picture Days
  • Step 6: Get involved – serve as a volunteer manager, coach, or team parent
  • Watch your step! Access to Lions Park with Eagle Creek bridge closure

Step 1: Team Assignments

Everyone is excited at this time to learn what team their kids will be on and ready to get the season rolling. This year, ZLL will be able to announce player-team assignments quicker than ever. Parents will receive team assignments by email no later than Monday March 9th. The email messages will come directly from ZLL through TeamSnap, our new registration system and will inform parents of their team assignment and team manager’s name.

ZLL is encouraging all parents to use the TeamSnap app on their smartphones. The app will keep you more connected to the team and keep you posted on team and league information. Download the app from the Apple Store or Google play below.

Step 2: Get your kids geared up and save 20% at ZLL Day @ Dick’s Sporting Goods

Saturday March 7 is ZLL Day at Dick’s Sporting Goods. All items in the store a 20% when you bring the ZLL Coupon (click the image to the right or the button below).

This is a great opportunity to pick up uniform pants, socks, belts, bats, helmets, and all the baseball and softball gear you love.

Experienced ZLL volunteers will be at the Trader’s Point store from 11 am to 1 pm on the 7th to answer questions about uniforms and equipment such as bats, helmets, gloves, and other gear.

Please note that all baseball, softball, and Tee ball players will wear gray pants, black belts, and black socks this season, and these items will be available for purchase at Dick’s on March 7.

Don’t go batty!

If you are purchasing a new bat, all bats must be Little League approved bats. If you are wondering about what size bat to choose, Dick’s has an excellent guide.

Step 3: Practice! Practice! Practice!

Weather permitting, practices for ZLL teams will begin on Monday March 23. Your team manager will inform you when your child’s team will have practice. The weather in March and April is unpredictable and often uncooperative, so hopefully we’ll be able to get practices in for teams before Opening Day.

Step 4: Let the Games Begin

Opening Day for ZLL Rec teams is Saturday April 11. We may not be able to schedule a game for all teams on Opening Day because of the large number of teams we will have this year, and because we’ll get off to a late start as a result of the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt earlier that morning.

Tee ball will not begin playing games until later in April or even early May – the schedule is still under development.

We’ll have game and practice schedules for all Rec and Tee Ball teams available in a couple of weeks. You’ll be able to view your children’s schedules through the TeamSnap app or by logging into your TeamSnap account on the web. If the schedule changes, you’ll be informed by the TeamSnap app and by email from TeamSnap.

Step 5: Capturing memories on Team Picture Days

ZLL utilizes ProTek Photography to take the official Team Pictures. Individual player photos and photos of the teams will be scheduled by ZLL and ProTek and typically take place an hour or so before a scheduled game. Picture Days for Rec Baseball and Softball teams will be on April 11 and April 18. Picture Days for Tee Ball will be May 2. We’ll be informing families of Team Picture schedules in a few weeks.

Step 6: Get involved – serve as a volunteer manager, coach, or team parent

Volunteers are the heart and soul of ZLL. We need as many as 200 volunteers each year to provide our children with a great baseball and softball experience. We are need to fill the following roles:

  • Board Members: Tournament Director, and Fall Ball Director
  • Team Managers and Coaches (most important job in the league!)
  • Team Parents

Watch your Step: Access to Lions Park

The bridge over Eagle Creek on Sycamore Street is closed for repairs and will be closed throughout the duration of the ZLL Spring season. Access to Lions Park from the East on Sycamore Street is not possible. (The pedestrian bridge across Eagle Creek is open during the repairs, but may be closed occasionally for safety reasons). Sycamore Street is open on the west side of the bridge so that families can access the Lions Park parking lot from the west.

If you have family or friends who may be coming from the east and would ordinarily take Sycamore Street to get to the park, please let them know to take the alternate route of 106th Street to Zionsville Road.

Because of the construction work, the pedestrian trail under the bridge to Creekside Park is closed. This area isn’t too far from Field 9. Please keep your children away from this area.
