Sharpe and McAfee Earn ZLL Scholarships

Congratulations to Judy Veatch Memorial Scholarship recipient Marley Sharpe and Chuck Keraga Memorial Scholarship recipient Bennett McAfee.

The recipients were presented their awards on May 17, 2022 at the ZCHS Senior Honors Night by ZLL Information Officer Bernie Paul.

These scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors who played in Zionsville Little League.  The Keraga Scholarship is awarded to a former ZLL baseball player and the Veatch Scholarship is awarded to a former ZLL softball player.  Each scholarship is valued at $500 and is based on the applicant’s involvement in ZLL, their academic performance, participation and leadership in extra curricular activities, and the quality of a written essay about how their experiences in Zionsville Little League helped prepare them for college, a professional career, and family life.

The scholarships were begun to honor the memory of longtime ZLL volunteers Chuck Keraga and Judy Veatch.  More information about Chuck, Judy, and these scholarships can be viewed here.

Marley is the daughter of Eddie and Janel Sharpe. Marley played softball in ZLL for 8 years and served as a ZLL youth umpire for 3 years. Marley was active in National Honor Society, the Renewable Energy Club, and the Key Club at ZCHS. She plans to attend Purdue University to study Biomedical Health Sciences.

Bennett is the son of Ben and Ashley McAfee. Bennett played 8 years in ZLL. He achieved the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts and was active in the Lions Leo Club, Zionsville Indoor Percussion, ZCHS Marching Band, and a volunteer at the Zionsville Food Pantry. He plans to attend Indiana University to study nursing.
