Below is the text of an email message ZLL Board President Chad Antcliff sent to the families of ZLL registered players regarding the 2020 Spring Rec Baseball and Softball program.
Good afternoon ZLL Families,
I hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. I continue to find myself with mixed emotions regarding our current reality. The unbelievable nature of what is happening, the importance of social distancing and staying at home countered with the changing season, the desire to be with family and friends, enjoying the weather, watching baseball or softball and Lions Park. The struggle is real and a challenge for all of us. However, I’m sure many of you are like me, having crossed things off your “To Do” list that you never believed you would get to. We are all in this together and will get through it together.
Last week, the Governor announced schools would remain closed and the rest of the school year will be conducted remotely. ZLL has used the schools directives and Little League International’s recommendations as factors when determining our direction for the season . At this time, the ZLL Board believes its in the best interest of our community to tentatively plan for the the start of our season the first part of June.
I’m sure this brings questions to many of you since our season was originally scheduled to end on June 13th. The beginning of June allows for ample time to provide a adequate game schedule and prepare the fields and park once the Stay At Home order is lifted, hopefully in May. In the coming weeks, we will provide more details on the season. If we are unable to start the beginning of June, there might be a more abbreviated season or other baseball, softball or social activities we can provide, if and when we are allowed to conduct them.
Our goal remains to offer a season for our young people, however the safety of our families, coaches and community is our number one priority. We will continue to monitor developments and keep you updated. Take advantage of the weather and get outside with your kids, play catch, ride your bikes and make the most of the situation.
Stay safe, stay healthy and practice social distancing!
Thank you,
Chad Antcliff, ZLL President
