Congratulations to Judy Veatch Memorial Scholarship recipient Campbell Strecker and Chuck Keraga Memorial Scholarship recipient Braden Shaw.
The recipients were presented their awards on May 7, 2023 at the ZCHS Senior Honors Night by ZLL Board President Torrye Kampen.
These scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors who played in Zionsville Little League. The Keraga Scholarship is awarded to a former ZLL baseball player and the Veatch Scholarship is awarded to a former ZLL softball player. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 and is based on the applicant’s involvement in ZLL, their academic performance, participation and leadership in extracurricular activities, and the quality of a written essay about how their experiences in Zionsville Little League helped prepare them for college, a professional career, and family life.
The scholarships were created to honor the memory of longtime ZLL volunteers Chuck Keraga and Judy Veatch. More information about Chuck, Judy, and these scholarships can be viewed here.
Campbell is the daughter of Lisa Richter and the late Steve Strecker. She played softball in ZLL for 7 years. While in high school, Campbell played softball, was active in her church youth groups, and participated in the National Honor Society and Key Club. Campbell plans to attend Saint Louis University in the fall to study occupational therapy. She was inspired to pursue her major through her involvement in the ZLL Challenger Softball program.
Braden is the son of Erin and Brock Shaw. He played baseball in ZLL for 6 years. While a student at ZCHS, Braden played baseball for 4 years, served on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team and has been active in the ZPC Awakening program. Braden plans to attend DePaul University in the fall where he will study business and continue his baseball career.
