ZLL’s Majors Softball Team achieved a first for ZLL when the team claimed the Indiana Little League Majors Softball State Championship on Monday July 19 in Fort Wayne. ZLL prevailed in a close battle over perennial softball powerhouse Floyds Knobs with a 1-0 extra inning victory. The Lebanon Reporter has a detailed re-cap of the final game.
No ZLL Majors softball or baseball team has ever claimed the Indiana championship before. This team, winning this state championship, fulfills the dreams of many in our community. None more than the late Steve Strecker, whose story was shared by Indianapolis Star sports columnist Gregg Doyel.
By virtue of winning the state title, ZLL advances to the Central Region Little League World Series Tournament in Whitestown with the opportunity to move on to the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina. This is the inaugural Regional tournament for the new facility in Whitestown.
ZLL’s first game at Whitestown is Sunday July 25 at 7 pm against Iowa. All other games are TBD. To follow the Central Region tournament, visit Little League’s Central Region softball web site.
Grandstand seating at the Whitestown facility is limited to player and coach families and you must have a ticket to enter the grandstand. Other ZLL fans may attend the game in person, but will be required to watch the games outside the perimeter of the field along the foul lines and outfield. Views from these locations may be significantly limited, so if you decide to attend the game, come with lowered expectations! We expect (and want) a big crowd to support our team, but please understand it may be difficult to see the game.
Alternatively you can watch the game on ESPN+ or follow on GameChanger.
You can show support for the team by leaving congratulatory or encouraging cards and notes at Lions Park Field 3 on Saturday between 8 am and noon or at Akard’s True Value Hardware in Boone Village on Friday or Saturday.
