ZLL Mourns Passing of Steve Strecker

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we mourn the loss of our friend and ZLL board member Steve Strecker, at the young age of 42.  Steve passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 22nd.  Steve is survived by his wife Lisa, and their four children, Isabella, Campbell, Ellie, and Grayson.

Steve served on the ZLL board for 3 years, first as the Director of Player Development for Softball, and later as the VP of Softball.  In this position, he directed every aspect of our softball program, and in his short tenure, Steve piloted the softball program into a great position, with growing enrollment and improved player and parent engagement.  If there was a softball game going, Steve was usually there, either coaching, watching from the stands, or directing from afar.  Furthermore, Steve was involved in the successful effort to bring the Little League International Central Region Headquarters here to Zionsville.

Steve was more than just a coach, he was a valued mentor to the entire softball program and many young girls in it.  He guided and challenged them to become better, more competitive players, while also educating them in how to play the game the right way, with their own personal development always more important than the game’s outcome.  Furthermore, many ZLL coaches were able to follow Steve’s lead to become better coaches themselves through his example.

On the ZLL board, Steve was a passionate advocate for the softball program’s continued development, as well as a trusted voice that we all looked to.  When Steve gave his opinion, we all listened.  Steve embodied the Little League values of Character, Courage, and Loyalty.  He served ZLL and the entire community with a positive outlook and confidence, and we all knew he was looking out for all of the children in ZLL.  We will miss him greatly at the park and in our monthly board meetings.

Funeral arrangements have been finalized through Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home.  The visitation will take place Tuesday, November 28th, from 3-8:00 PM at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, located at 1870 W. Oak St. here in Zionsville.  Further viewing will take place at the church on Wednesday, November 29th from 10-11:00 AM prior to the funeral mass beginning at 11:00.

Steve’s wife Lisa has graciously included Zionsville Little League as an option for memorial contributions in Steve’s honor.  These will be handled through Flanner Buchanan in Zionsville, or can be made online at the following link.
