ZLL’s 50/70 (Intermediate Division) All-Star baseball team advanced to the Indiana State Championship game on Sunday afternoon with a convincing 13-3 win over the Don Ayers Little League (Fort Wayne) all-star team in the semi-finals.
The Eagles will play for the state championship at 2 pm on Monday July 17 on Field 1 at Lions Park. Their opponent in the championship game is Highland Youth Recreation out of Georgetown, Indiana.
The winner of the Indiana state tournament will advance to the Central Region championship series played in Kalamazoo, MI July 21 through July 27. Indiana’s winner will be matched against Ohio’s champion.
Zionsville advanced to this stage by winning 2 of 3 pool play games in the tournament – with strong offensive output in victories over Hobart and Greenwood. ZLL scored 20 runs in both games. In the game against Hobart, two ZLL players, Adrian Winston and Connor Milliner whacked home runs. Milliner’s blast was a grand slam.
In the semi-final game on Sunday, ZLL avenged its only loss in pool play with the victory over Don Ayers.
ZLL encourages the community to come out and support the Eagles as the team vies for the state title.
