Because of new Little League rules for bats which go into effect in 2018, ZLL strongly encourages parents to make prudent financial decisions about buying a new bat for baseball. In 2018, only those bats which meet the USA Baseball organization’s bat standards will be allowed in Little League baseball games. Little League approved bats from 2017 and earlier years will not be allowed during the 2018 baseball season. Little League International’s web site has more information on the new bat standards for Little League baseball, and all parents should review this information.
If you are in the market for a new bat for your baseball player this year, ZLL encourages you to think about how much money you will spend on a bat this year. The upcoming changes to the bat standards means that any bat you purchase for your player this year cannot be used in 2018. At most you will get one season of use out of a bat you purchase this year.
Fortunately, no such issues exist for softball bats. There are no upcoming rule changes for softball bats. A softball bat purchased this year will be fine for 2018.
