The opening round of the ZLL Rec Baseball Tournaments were highlighted by dramatic games and close games, particularly in the 50-70 and Majors Divisions.
In the first ever 50-70 Tournament for ZLL, the White Sox outlasted the Yankees in a nip and tuck game that went to 9 innings. After 8 innings, the score was tied 9-9 and the Sox opened the 9th by scoring 5 runs, taking the lead on a two out hit by Jacob Fancher. Eventually the White Sox scored 5 to go up 14-9. The Yankees did not go quietly, however, scoring two runs and had runners on base when Fancher was called in to shut down the Yankee rally.
In the other 50-70 game, the Cubs and Reds traded leads in a slugfest that the Cubs eventually won late in the night by a score of 18-14.
