Minors softball needs one victory to capture District 8 title
The Zionsville Girls Minors Green All-Star team battles for the District 8 Tournament Championship Wednesday night July 11 against Broad Ripple. The game will be played at 7 pm at Lion’s Park. Broad Ripple, which survived the elimination bracket in the tournament must defeat the Eagles twice to claim the crown. A win by Zionsville on either Wednesday or in a contingent game on Thursday gives the title to Zionsville. Come down to the park to support this terrific team.
11U Boys Green and 10U Boys Green both one victory away from advancing to championship rounds
The Boys 11U Green team bounced back from an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Plainfield 20-8. The game featured a rare accomplishment by a baseball player of any age: Eagles shortstop Ethan Barksdale hit for the cycle – hitting a home run, triple, double, and a single in the same game. The 11U team now faces Eagle Creek Wednesday July 11 at 6:30 pm at Eagle Creek. The winner will face Brownsburg on Thursday at 6:30 pm at Eagle Creek to vie for the District 8 title. Since Zionsville and Eagle Creek both have one loss in the tournament, either team must defeat Brownsburg twice to win the championship.
The 10U Green team advanced by defeating Ben Davis and will play Brownsburg Purple on Thursday July 12 at 8 pm at Tri West. The winner of that game moves to the championship and the loser will play an additional game on Friday at Eagle Creek for the opportunity to jump back into the championship. The title game will be played on Saturday at 10 am at Eagle Creek, and if a second game is needed, it will be played on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm at Eagle Creek.
