10U Green and 10U White Advance in District 8 Tournament

Despite first game losses, the ZLL 10U Green and 10U White teams bounced back with big wins to advance in the District 8 Little League All-Star Tournament.  Both teams have heavy schedules ahead of them this weekend to survive the Elimination Bracket in the double elimination tournament.

Both teams endured rainouts of their initial tournament games on Saturday June 29, with both teams getting into action on Sunday.  The White team fell to Fall Creek 14-4, but recovered with a 9-4 win over Ben Davis on Monday.  The White team takes on Brownsburg’s 9U Purple team on Friday at Tri West, and if they survive, will play again on Saturday against Brownsburg’s 10U White team.

The Green team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Brownsburg’s 10U Purple team 12-11, enduring a long rain delay and a lightning delay in a game that lasted nearly 5 hours.  The Eagles fell behind early 6-1 and 8-4, but charged back with 7 runs in the 4th inning to take an 11-8 lead.  Brownsburg, however, mounted a furious rally in the 6th inning to take the game.

The Green team stormed back in their first Elimination Bracket by shutting down Eagle Creek 5-1 in a rain-shortened game.  The Eagles were led by a strong pitching performance from Andrew Paul who pitched the entire 4 inning game on just 44 pitches.  The offense scored 5 big runs in the 2nd inning, after being ignited by a long double by TJ Newnum.  Jeb Garrett, Elijah Lang, Caleb Everson, Alex Michie, and Jack Nelson all contributed big hits during the rally, and Paul knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Green team plays Washington Township on Saturday morning at 10:30 at Tri-West.  If they win again, they will play the survivor of the games involving the ZLL White team.

The ZLL 9U team suffered losses in their first two games of the tournament and have moved on to participate in other All-Star tournaments this summer.
