Lions’ Park cleanup efforts begin Sunday and Monday; Opening Night on April 26

ZLL Families,

The ZLL Board met at the park this morning and surveyed the damage from the flood and developed a plan for the next week.

Our goal is to resume games and practices as soon as possible and to have the Opening Night ceremony on Friday April 26.

Now is the time for all of us to step up in the park cleanup and restoration efforts. The flood damage at the park is expansive, but not severe. The buildings had to be emptied and cleaned, and those efforts are currently underway. The concession stand lost a lot of equipment. Some fences have been toppled over. The most extensive problem at the park is the debris from the flood.

There are some big jobs like moving bleachers back to their original location. We’ll find the right people who can help with those jobs.

We need the most help for the jobs that most of us can easily do. Fences need to be rebuilt. Debris like sticks and leaves have to be removed. We have to put the bases back on the diamonds. The dirt areas on the field need prepping again. It’s a lot of work, but all work an able-bodied person who can contribute a few hours can do.

We have scheduled cleanup efforts at the park starting Sunday afternoon at 1 pm, and again on Monday afternoon from 4 to 8 pm. If we need more time, we’ll continue with these efforts every evening until the park is ready.

We are asking all ZLL families to spend some hours at the park. Take the hours that you would have been down here for games and practices and put that towards the clean up. We need a lot of help to resume the season. The timing of this event couldn’t have been worse. If you need an incentive, remember that we can’t resume games or practices until all the fields are ready for play again. Your families are critical to making that happen. As has been stated before, this is a great opportunity to teach your kids how to deal with adversity – jump in and help!

So much of the value of playing baseball and softball in Zionsville Little League is the Lions’ Park experience. Our park needs you. Our league needs you.

We’ll be distributing uniform orders and Opening Night t-shirt orders at the Gazebo on Monday evening. It’s a great opportunity to pick up items and chip in with some work.

Thank you in advance for all your help. Opening Day is just around the corner!

More information will be posted on our website and Facebook pages.
