Opening Day launches 2012 Little League season

Zionsville Little League opened another exciting season on Saturday April 21.  Originally planned for an “Opening Night” celebration on Friday evening, those plans were scuttled when cold rain stuck around throughout the day.

Hosted by Fox 59’s Ray Cortopassi, Opening Day festivities included the traditional parade of teams onto Field 2, and recognition of Troy Hobick with the McKamey/Holmes Award and Em-Roe Sports with the Sponsor of the Year Award.  Screaming Eagles softball player Claire Eugenio started the ceremonies with a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

The Flamingos’ Lucy Garrett and Maddy McHale inaugurated the softball season with the official “first pitch”.  For baseball, the first pitch honors went to the A’s Jake Muller and the Reds Andrew Redman.
